Sunny and Breezy - (NEW CD)

A world is suggested or communicated to me through the essential elements of nature. Although these communiqués are often edited by us somewhere along the way, in this work, I am attempting to leave some aspects of their appearance as is while applying the tools of my familiar memory on the overall image as I intend to unify the outcome musically. In some places, I have chosen rhythms and maqams that speak to all the senses: the senses of the body, the ego, and the soul. However, while carrying these tunes as performers, they take us to far places that are somewhat subjective and/or contradictory. Essentially, we find ourselves manifesting society, expressing socialization, and reciting our musical improvisations over Mediterranean mountains while traveling to places where profound, raw emotions are about to be established and/or transformed. Shams w Hawa, represents the thin line that separates these emotions and separates laughter from sadness. At times, I feel that in one set only, I transform several times over; I hope that the reaction that it creates will be as faithful as possible.

The recording took place in Ramallah in 2011. Players are Ramadan Khattab, bass; Luay Bshara, violin; Michele Ruhana, 'ud; Hani As'ad, percussion; Heather Bursheh, flute; Ya'qubHammoudeh, qanun.
