The tar is a long-necked, waisted lute family instrument utilized by numerous cultures and countries, including Iran, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Georgia, Tajikistan (Iranian Plateau), Turkey, and others around the Caucasus and Central Asia regions.  Aria Music Publications includes the tar in many of its arrangements.
