The Middle East Music Ensemble was established by the University of Chicago Music Department in 1997. Directed by acclaimed Palestinian 'ud player/composer, the ensemble is committed to the study and performance of a wide range of Middle Eastern music, with an emphasis on maqam theory and practice. Members represent a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and include artists from the university community and Greater Chicago.
