The hakawati, (plural hakawatiyya), or storyteller, was once an important figure in Middle Eastern culture. They drew big crowds and presented cultural tales, folklore, and epics with amazing wit, intelligence, composure, and emotion. They recognized the power of words and the lasting impressions stories have on audiences. They understood that storytelling was and continues to be a fundamental aspect of our survival: educating, healing, unifying, and connecting communities. Composer Issa Boulos dedicated this work to Palestinian storyteller Adel al-Tartir, one of the most renowned Palestinian storytellers.
